Culottes and Crop Tops

When you spend a lot of time around fashionable influences, you start to pick up an interest in the style. Having spent the last three months working for a pair of designers, I've noticed that I have a growing interest in more loose fit pants. With that being said, I was never entirely certain if I could pull of the look of a karate pant or culotte outside of the Tae Kwon Do classes I took as a kid. I recently tried these culottes on, just for the heck of it, and I was blown away by how much I fell in love with them!

As shorts like these have a lot more volume, I find that it is best to either pair them with a fitted top or a crop top. I chose to wear heels with this look to elongate my legs, but you can wear a loafer or sandals with something like this as well.

Oh! And a little tip, don't be afraid to mix navy and black together. I was always told that these two colors were mutually exclusive (particularly with suiting) but this is completely untrue! When layered you can really play up the differences in the colors. Another option is to accessorize the look with a complimentary color of both navy and black OR to wear pieces with different textures that can make the colors really pop against each other.

Want It Wednesday: Jaci Boutique

Jaci Boutique 1

I'm excited to welcome you all to the second installment of #WantItWednesday

This week is dedicated to some great finds from an online boutique based out of Texas. Jaci Boutique aims to provide trendy pieces for today's fashionista, and has a wide variety of options from more classic silhouettes to the most recent trend. Pictured above are a few things that I couldn't stop thinking about.

Starting with the jewelry, I love the different textures in the bracelet. The braided leather with the gold metal makes it casual enough to wear every day while maintaining an edgy and yet feminine appeal. Definitely great for the summer to mix and match with friendship bracelets and other leather/rope pieces.

The next piece I fell in love with was the necklace, simple and elegant. The green in the crystal isn't too overwhelming, but it's shine pops beautifully against the matte gold chain.

Sheer fabrics are one of my favorite trends for this season, and these black pants make it fun and easy to wear. The lining cuts off at the thigh giving your outfit some interesting detail. You can show off your legs a bit differently while still being covered up. This look can be dressed up with a blazer and heels or worn casually with a baggy tee and some metallic sandals. Definitely a piece that, while trendy, can be worn time and time again.

What I love about the last two pieces is the eyelet detailing. The dress has a classic shape with darting in the front and back making it great for both work and play. The peplum top, while it's been done time and again, suddenly has new life with it's square eyelet detailing.

And the best part for you all as my loyal readers.....

Light & Airy: A Cool Look For Summer

Top :: Club Monaco
Jeans :: Bullhead Black Denim from PacSun similar here

By now, you all know that I'm big on comfort and this outfit makes the heat that much easier to deal with. When it gets hot out you don't always have to tear off all of your layers to feel like you can stand it. As long as you choose the right fabrics, you can always stay a bit cooler while remaining covered incase you enter a room with the AC cranked up.

This draped top is made from viscose and is therefore cool and breathable. I paired is with ripped jeans, and while denim isn't all that light, the giant openings create some ventilation for your legs. I completed the look with these chunky structured sandals. While I went with a bare neckline, you could add a small necklace to make the look a little more uniquely you.

I hope you like the look, and as always thanks for reading<3

Dressed Down

Top :: Club Monaco similar here
Pants :: New York & Co.
Sandals :: White Mountain
Bag :: The Upper House (gift with stay at hotel)

I don't know about you, but recently I've been into clothing that is a bit more dressed up. Despite this, I still have a tendency to want to dress looks down and stay true to my comfortable self. This look is all about taking a classic white pant and making it more wearable for your everyday life.

While I do maintain wearing a button down in this look, it is made from a softer cotton and has a print to make the look a bit more fun and playful. Instead of pairing heels or ballet flats with this look, I opted for a funky pair of strappy sandals. Continuing with the black and white theme, I topped the look off with a black leather tote. This look is super simply and comfy, and can be worn with the shirt tucked in or out (both options are pictured above).

How do you like to dress down your fancier pieces? Let me know in the comments below!

Want It Wednesday: Black & White

Black & White

Hello hello to all of my lovely readers! Today is the start of a new weekly post on the blog entitled "Want It Wednesday". Each Wednesday I'll be posting images and links to items that I am lusting over and why! In some cases I'll even post more affordable alternatives!

Currently I am obsessing over black and white pairings. Yes, I am a tad bit inspired by my obsession with Janelle Monae, but beyond this black and white is a classic pairing of colors that you just can't go wrong with.

I love the look of this A-symmetrical skort that has been a popular trend lately and makes a style infinitely more wearable as you do not have to worry about your skirt riding up.

Platforms are a favorite of mine and the ones pictured above are no exception. They take the look of a slim strappy heel and make it more edgy with the chunky ridged platform, super fun and easy to walk in if heels are a bit of a pain for you.

I love this striped dress as it is super flattering. The lines will give you an hourglass shape and make you appear slimmer in what may be a trouble spot for you. Paired with heels and a blazer, you're all set for a day at the office.

Last but not least, and admittedly a far cry from black and white, is this beautiful gold chunky necklace. You all know that I love pieces that mix femininity with an edgy/masculine appeal. Generally women's jewelry can be more dainty, but I love chunky pieces that can make a statement and change up a simple and classic look.

This week is all about pieces that I've found on Tiharose Boutique, a cute little online boutique based in the UK that has chic items at affordable prices. AND you're all in luck! As a courtesy to each and every one of you I have a promo code so that you can take advantage of an 8% discount on your future purchases from the website! A little thank you for being such supportive and loving readers/followers<3

Mix N Match

Top :: Dress from Francesca's similar here
Skirt :: Loft similar style here and here
Belt :: bebe seen here
Bracelet :: Lulu's similar here
Heels :: Vince Camuto

Finding new ways to wear old pieces can definitely get a little difficult at times, but when you're in a rut and tired of wearing the same thing you should definitely try to mix and match pieces. Here I've paired a dress, being worn as a top, with a new skirt. I added a belt to bring the looks together and topped it off with a bracelet and my heels.

Try taking a few pieces from your wardrobe and pairing them in ways that you wouldn't have expected, the results will surprise you!!

Romping Around

Romper :: bebe similar here and here
Heels :: Charlotte Russe similar here
Clutch :: Forever XXI
Bracelet :: Vintage

Happy Monday!

In today's post I'm wearing the romper that I posted on Instagram a little while back. I had gone out for my friends birthday in the city and as it was finally warming up I knew I had to pull this out. The bright color is perfect for summer, and it has a sexy slit on the back. To keep the romper the focus of the look, I paired it with nude heels, carried my cute and sparkly Hello Kitty iPad clutch/case, and wore a green necklace as a bracelet to add a bit more color. I love this time of year when I can finally pull out some of my favorite pieces like this<3 Tell my all about your favorite pieces for this season in the comments below!

Stripes

Tank Top :: Loft
Blazer :: Loft
Pants :: Loft similar style here
Heels :: Charlotte Russe similar style here
Necklace :: Vintage

Clearly I've been a little obsessed with Loft lately lol but they have so many amazing things! This outfit is totally great for work or a day out and can easily be paired with flats instead. I like mixing the horizontal and vertical stripes, and the fact that one style is a bit more harsh than the other.

Since the details on the top half are a bit busier, I stuck with a basic neutral pant and heel. I just love the summer vibes of this look! And of course it has my favorite color of the season, baby blue<3

Hope you all like this look, and thanks for reading! See ya Monday!
