Unfortunately in the northeast, mornings have been pretty chilly the last few days. Taking the morning commute gets harder when you need to figure out how to wear layers that can get you through a cold morning, chilly office, and 80 degree weather in the afternoon if you happen to step outside.

While this dress may be a bit warm for the 80 degree afternoons, the colder weather has me thinking about the fall and this outfit is perfect for those first days. Maroon is always a great color for autumn, I'm pretty sure I have 2-3 lip colors in this family alone. A plaid shirt is great for cooler mornings, but adds a sporty look to the dress as the day gets warmer. Sneakers and a faux leather backpack make for the perfect finishing touches to this sporty look.

This time of year is great because you can spend time socializing outdoors with friends and family. Yesterday we took a trip up to New York and had a BBQ at my cousins house. I threw this look together quickly before leaving: a baby blue striped tank top, fitted khaki paratrooper inspired pants, and snake print sandals with a pop of orange detailed on the side. 

When it comes to gatherings, whether it be with family or friends, I always go through at least two outfits and this was the final option I came up with. I wanted something that I could be comfortable in as the day got cooler, but I could still stand to be in the sun. An airy and breathable top is great for this time of year when paired with some cuffed pants because you can easily go from the cool AC to a sunny deck BBQ. Autumn Awakening: Striped Sweater & Leather Accents

For today's look I wanted to put together an outfit that I had worn to class around this time last year. It's a simple look that can be dressed up a bit more with heels, but is still casual enough for your day time activities. I paired this Superdry top with a simple grey cotton skirt, some black tights to keep me warm, and I added texture with my quilted leather jacket and faux leather booties. To add some shine to the look, I wore a set of gold bracelets that my grandmother gave to me as a child, a simple skull ring (you'll soon learn that I have an obsession with skull accessories), and my J. Crew necklace. As the weather changes it's important to stay warm, but that doesn't mean you can't look cute doing it!
